Overview Of Linear Stabilized Power Supplies

Linear stabilized power supply is a commonly used type of power supply which operates by keeping the power device regulator tube working in the linear region of operation. The output voltage is stabilized by the voltage drop between the regulator tubes. However, the static loss of the adjustment tube is relatively large and requires a large radiator for proper heat dissipation. Moreover, since the transformer operates at the power frequency of 50Hz, it adds to the weight of the device. In summary, the linear stabilized power supply is an effective solution, but it comes with certain design limitations such as a requirement for large heat sinks and heavy transformers.

 

 

This type of power supply offers numerous advantages, such as its high stability and small ripple, which ensure reliable performance. It also allows for easy creation of multiple channels and provides the flexibility of continuously adjustable output. However, one major drawback is its bulky and relatively inefficient nature. Stable power supplies come in various forms, including regulated power supplies that maintain a constant voltage output, regulated current power supplies that control the output current, and integrated power supplies that offer both voltage and current regulation. In terms of output, they can be categorized as fixed-point output, adjustable through band switches, or continuously adjustable via potentiometers. Additionally, the type of output indication varies, with options such as pointer indication or digital display.
